.: Tips
Whether or not you use IT Service Guy for your computer and networking needs, the following listed tips will help protect you, your computer, and your pocket book...
- Always, always, always BACKUP YOUR CRUCIAL DATA to another storage source! Can you imagine how devastating it would be if you lost it all? What about all those irreplaceable digital photos you have been accumulating over the years?
- Do not click on suspicious links. Hover your mouse over links and look at the bottom left corner of your browser window to see where the link will take you. If the link goes to a different website address or a unreadable domain name don't click on it!
- Do not open suspicious email attachments.
- Never purchase anything from a window that mysteriously "pops up" on your computer telling you that you need a specific product because your computer is "infected". Those windows are caused by malicious spyware programs written by dishonest people who are trying to commit fraud and steal your money by selling you a worthless product that won't even fix the problem they created.
- If a pop up window refuses to close, or wants to force you to click on "Ok" which may infect your computer with a virus or spyware, try holding down the ALT Key while simultaneously pressing the F4 Key to "Force Quit" the foreground window or application. If that still doesn't work open the Windows Task Manager (Press CTRL+ALT+Delete keys simultaneously) then select "Start Task Manager", click on the "Applications" Tab, Click on the Browser Application (ie: Windows Explorer, Firefox, etc.) running the Window that won't close, and then click on the "End Task" button to force quit the application.
- Never pay too much to fix your computer. Consider what your computer is worth and get an accurate estimate for the repair costs ahead of time. Most large businesses that provide computer related technical support CHARGE WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. Watch out for those black and white Volkswagen Bugs because they are the most expensive! ;)
- Never wait forever for your computer to be repaired. Most repairs can be done within 24 hours or less!
- Make sure you trust your Information Technology Professional. Following bad advice for unecessary upgrades or repairs can be a waste of your money.
- "If it aint broke, don't fix it!"
- If your computer does everything you need it to do fast enough that it does not drive you crazy, you do not need a new computer yet!
